Warrior Fred Ho, Presenté

August 10, 1957 - April 12, 2014

Press Release

Fred Ho, matriarchalist warrior, revolutionary baritone saxophonist, composer, band leader, theorist, author, producer, teacher, and revered combat martial artist, made his journey to the spirit world in the morning of Saturday, April 12, 2014. He passed away peacefully in his Brooklyn home, surrounded by womyn warriors and an abundance of love. He is survived by his mother Frances Lu Houn, and sisters Flourence Houn and Flora Houn Hoffman.

Fred Ho was a creative visionary who innovated works of art – music, martial arts operas, manga-inspired comic books, revolutionary manifestos, handmade clothing and accessories – that merged revolutionary politics with a pioneering Afro –Asian arts and culture aesthetic.  Ho created music and embodied the kind of revolutionary politics that one else could do or create. He was a theorist and strategist developing forward-thinking principles for building a new society based on values of matriarchy, ecosocialism, indigeneity, and marooning.

Fred Ho is an inspiration to musicians, composers, artists, scholars and revolutionaries everywhere, with friends and comrades all over the world.

Fred's ashes will be spread over the sea of Kauai, where he will swim forever with the coral reefs. The NYC Grand Memorial Tribute to Fred Ho was on October 4th, 2014 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Café. Scientific Soul Sessions continues his artistic and political legacy. Marie Incontrera and the Eco-Music Big Band continue his music.

Scientific Soul Sessions was founded in January 2010 at 169 West 126th Street in Harlem, New York City.

By knowing that we have a lot to become, and a lot more to know, we will change, become better, clearer, stronger, more committed, dedicated and capable of taking on all challenges.
